Sharing our Bamboo Passion
We have been in love and passionate about bamboo plants since 2003. Clumping bamboo is beautiful, animated, useful, and a lot of fun to grow and interact with. Over the past 20 years of growing tropical clumping bamboo, we have learned through trial and error and a lot of research in order to understand how bamboo grows, how to propagate it, and how to share our knowledge and passion with others who are interested in bamboo plants for their property. Fat Grass Bamboo nursery is certified by the Florida Department of Agriculture (Registration # 48032974).
We provide knowledge and guidance, from the moment we meet our customers, through maturity of their bamboo plants. We are always willing to answer questions or just chat about the "big new shoot" their bamboo is getting one day. Regardless, we love to talk about bamboo, so our customers get more than just a bamboo plant during and long after purchase from Fat Grass Bamboo Nursery.
Our Bamboo Nursery
Our growing private nursery is located conveniently in Orange Park, FL near Doctor's Lake. Currently you must make an appointment to visit our bamboo nursery.
The majority of our potted clumping bamboo are created by direct division from our mature clumps, meaning the roots are large from the start of propagation, making them perfect to get your bamboo growing fast.
Our Bamboo Farm
Located in South Green Cove Springs, our private bamboo farm is where we grow additional clumping bamboo for propagation.
We have over 40 clumps of bamboo at our farm, which is directly on Highway 17, so there's no way to miss it when driving by! We consider it great exposure for clumping bamboo to all the onlookers passing by daily.
What is "Fat Grass"?
A literal meaning to our name!
Our brand name is a literal description of bamboo. Bamboo is a "grass”, not a tree. Bamboo grows the same way turf grass does, but is a "fat" version of it.
Many have complimented our catchy name saying it is clever and funny. We couldn't agree more. Bamboo is a super fun plant to grow, so why not have some brand name fun?!
